NIO's Firefly brand delivered its 80,000th vehicle in Hefei on September 5, 2026, adding the last 10,000 units in under two months as the small EV brand keeps up a market-share streak in China's premium compact-car segment.
NIO Inc. (NYSE: NIO; HKG: 9866) launched Firefly on April 29, 2025 as its third brand alongside the flagship NIO and family-oriented ONVO lines, positioning the model as a premium small EV rather than a budget city car. The brand's delivery pace has accelerated through 2026, moving from 50,000 units on March 29 to 60,000 on May 23, 70,000 on July 16, and now 80,000 on September 5, a roughly seven-week gap between the last two milestones and the shortest interval the brand has posted between consecutive 10,000-unit thresholds.

Firefly's July 2026 retail volume reached 6,013 units. NIO's own reported deliveries for the brand then reached 5,852 units in August, up 34.7% year over year. Cumulative deliveries from January through August reached 40,795 units, a 180.3% increase from the same period in 2025, building on a June 2026 total of 6,946 units that was itself up 76.7% year over year and 22.7% from the previous month.
The brand has held the top sales spot in China's premium compact-car segment for 15 consecutive months, with market share exceeding 70% in eight of those months. Firefly's output has also become a meaningful share of NIO's group-wide volume, accounting for 17.11% of total NIO deliveries in June 2026 and 15.26% of the group's first-half total.

Firefly formally joined NIO's battery-swap network on August 7, 2026, when the group's 4,000th swap station opened in Quanzhou, Fujian. The brand now runs 33 dedicated swap stations across 27 cities, built on NIO's fifth-generation station design that can complete a full battery swap in about three minutes, with automatic parking alignment that lines the vehicle up at the station without driver input. The swap-network tie-in gives Firefly owners access to an infrastructure layer that had previously been reserved for NIO's larger, pricier models.
Firefly's lineup now spans four production trims: the base Zizai trim at CNY 119,800 (c. $17,900) and the Faguang trim at CNY 125,800 (c. $18,700), both launched April 7, 2026; the Halo Xunguang "Habitat" trim at CNY 133,300 (c. $19,900), launched July 20; and the "Heart of Summer Sea" special edition at CNY 135,800 (c. $20,300), launched August 28. Each trim is also sold roughly CNY 40,000 cheaper under NIO's battery-as-a-service subscription, from CNY 79,800 up to CNY 95,800 (c. $11,900 to $14,300), with NIO retaining ownership of the battery pack in exchange for a monthly rental fee.

All four trims share the same drivetrain: a single rear-mounted motor rated at 120 kW (163 PS) and 205 N·m of torque, taking the car from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds to a 150 km/h (93 mph) top speed. The 42.1-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, supplied by Sunwoda, carries a CLTC-rated range of 420 km (261 miles) and can recharge from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes on a DC fast charger. The car measures 4,003 mm long on a 2,615 mm wheelbase, with a 4.7-meter turning radius, a 92-liter front trunk and 335 to 1,253 liters of rear cargo space depending on seat position.

The Halo Xunguang "Habitat" trim is distinguished mainly by cosmetic touches, a glowing green logo badge and a matching "green realm" interior ambient-light theme, rather than by extra hardware. All four trims share the same Level 2 driver-assistance suite, built around a Horizon Robotics chip with 128 TOPS of compute, a single millimeter-wave radar, six exterior cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors, running NIO's own Firefly AD software. The "Heart of Summer Sea" edition instead adds unique multi-spoke wheels and an exclusive body decal, alongside an August software update called Aster Purslane 2.0.0 that brought AI-assisted image generation to the in-car system.

Firefly's growth has come as NIO works to stabilize its overall delivery numbers against intensifying competition from BYD (HKG: 1211), Geely and other domestic rivals that have crowded into the small-EV category over the past two years. Many of those competitors undercut Firefly on price but lack the swap-network and software integration NIO is now extending to the brand, a distinction NIO appears to be leaning on as its main point of differentiation in a segment where feature lists otherwise look similar across brands.
The brand's ability to sustain a market-share lead above 70% for eight months in a segment that typically sees frequent new entrants suggests NIO has found a workable niche within the broader compact-EV price war. Whether that dominance holds will depend partly on how quickly rivals respond with their own service-network tie-ins, since Firefly's current edge rests as much on infrastructure access as on the vehicle itself.
With 10,000 units added in under two months, Firefly's next milestone could arrive before the end of 2026, raising the question of how much further integration with NIO's swap and software ecosystem can push the brand's growth rate from here.
