Privacy Policy
FrançaisEffective date: October 12, 2026
This policy explains what personal information GlobalChinaEV (https://www.globalchinaev.com, the "Site") collects, why, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. The Site is operated by GigaCharts Inc., 1724 Chemin des Patriotes, Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel, Quebec J0G 1T0, Canada ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal information described here (under the GDPR, we are the "controller").
We wrote this policy for readers everywhere, including Canada (federal law, PIPEDA, and Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as amended by Law 25), the European Union, the United Kingdom and Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR / Swiss FADP), and US states with privacy laws, such as California.
1. The short version
- You can read the Site without an account. We have no user accounts, comments, contact form or payments.
- If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address only, to send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- We show ads from Google AdSense and measure traffic with Google Analytics 4 and Vercel Web Analytics (cookieless). Where the law requires it, Google's ad and analytics cookies wait until you agree.
- We don't sell your personal information for money. But some laws treat advertising cookies as "selling" or "sharing", so we give you a way to opt out (sections 6 and 8).
2. Person in charge of protecting personal information
Under Quebec law, the person in charge of the protection of personal information at GigaCharts is:
President, GigaCharts Inc.
1724 Chemin des Patriotes, Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel, Quebec J0G 1T0, Canada
Email: globalchinaev@gmail.com
Contact this person for any question, request or complaint about privacy.
3. What we collect and why
a) Newsletter (only if you subscribe)
| What | Your email address, the date and time you signed up, and whether you confirmed your subscription. Nothing else: no name, no location, no profile. |
| Why | To send you a confirmation email and then the GlobalChinaEV newsletter (EV industry news and updates). We don't use your email for anything else and don't give it to advertisers. |
| Legal basis | Your consent. You give it by entering your email and clicking Subscribe, then confirming through the link we email you. |
| Withdraw consent / unsubscribe | Any time, for free: use the unsubscribe page at https://www.globalchinaev.com/newsletter/unsubscribe, the unsubscribe link in our emails, or write to globalchinaev@gmail.com. |
| Where it's stored | In a database on Amazon Web Services (Amazon DynamoDB), in AWS's US East (Ohio) region, United States. Emails are sent through Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) from newsletter@globalchinaev.com. |
| How long | Until you unsubscribe. When you unsubscribe, your email address is deleted from our subscriber database. If you never confirm your subscription, we delete the unconfirmed address within 30 days. |
b) Information sent automatically when you visit
Like any website, when your browser loads a page it sends technical information: your IP address, browser and device type, the page you asked for, the page you came from, and the date and time.
- Hosting (Vercel). Our Site is hosted by Vercel Inc., which processes this information to deliver pages and keep the Site secure. Servers handling our traffic are in the United States. Server logs are kept for a short period under Vercel's log retention and are used only to run, secure and fix the Site. Legal basis (GDPR): our legitimate interest in operating a secure website.
- Images (Amazon CloudFront). Article images are delivered from Amazon Web Services' CloudFront network, which receives the same technical information when your browser loads an image. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
- Search. If you use the search box, your search words are sent to our server to find matching articles. We don't save your searches in a database, though they may briefly appear in hosting logs.
c) Analytics
- Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd.) uses cookies to count visits and see which pages are read, how long, from which kind of device, and the approximate country or city (worked out from your IP address). It assigns your browser a random identifier; it does not tell us who you are. We use it to understand what readers find useful. Legal basis: your consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland. In Quebec, Google Analytics 4 runs only with your consent. Elsewhere, our legitimate interest in understanding our audience. Google Analytics keeps event-level data for the retention period set in our account (no more than 14 months).
- Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without storing your IP address. It identifies a visit using a short-lived code calculated from the request, which resets every 24 hours, so you can't be followed across days or across other websites. We only see totals (for example, top pages, referring sites, country, browser). Legal basis: legitimate interest.
d) Advertising (Google AdSense)
We show ads served by Google AdSense, and through it by other ad companies that Google works with. Section 6 explains how this works and how to opt out. Legal basis: your consent for cookies and for personalized ads in the EEA, UK and Switzerland. In Quebec, advertising cookies and personalized ads are enabled only with your consent. Elsewhere, our legitimate interest in funding the Site through advertising, with your right to opt out.
We also check whether an ad blocker is active (in your browser only; we don't record the result) so we can ask you to allow ads on our Site.
e) Google "preferred source" button
On articles we show Google's official button that lets you add GlobalChinaEV as a preferred source in Google Search. To display it, your browser loads a script from Google (news.google.com), which receives your IP address and the page you're on, and may recognize you if you're signed in to Google. If you click it, you go to Google, and Google's privacy policy applies.
f) If you email us
If you write to us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and your message. We use them only to reply and keep a record of the conversation. Our mailbox is hosted by Google. Legal basis: legitimate interest in answering you (or taking steps you request).
g) Your consent choices
When you make a choice in our consent message, Google's consent tool stores it in a cookie on your device so we don't ask again on every page.
What we don't do
No user accounts, no comments, no contact forms, no payments, no collection of sensitive information, and no automated decisions about you that have legal or similar effects. The share buttons (X, Facebook, Reddit, email) are plain links: nothing is sent to those networks unless you click.
4. Who we share information with
We share personal information only with these service providers, and only for the purposes above:
| Provider | What it does for us |
|---|---|
| Vercel Inc. (USA) | Hosts the Site; Vercel Web Analytics |
| Amazon Web Services, Inc. (USA) | Stores newsletter subscribers (DynamoDB), sends emails (SES), serves images (CloudFront) |
| Google LLC (USA) and Google Ireland Ltd. | Ads (AdSense) and the ad companies Google works with; Google Analytics 4; consent message; preferred-source button; our email mailbox |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or someone's safety, or to a buyer if the Site is sold (in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information).
We don't sell personal information for money.
5. Information stored outside Quebec and Canada
Our providers store and process information outside Quebec and Canada, mainly in the United States, and Google may also process it in other countries where it operates. Information held abroad is subject to the laws of those countries, and authorities there may be able to access it.
Before sending personal information outside Quebec, we assess whether it will be adequately protected, and we rely on our providers' contractual commitments to protect it.
For readers in the EEA, UK and Switzerland: transfers to the United States rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (and its UK and Swiss extensions) where the provider is certified, or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses (and the UK addendum). You can ask us for more information about these safeguards.
6. Advertising and Google: how ad cookies work
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings: https://www.google.com/settings/ads
- You can opt out of some other vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at https://www.aboutads.info (US) or https://www.youronlinechoices.eu (Europe).
- To learn more, read How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they won't be based on your browsing.
7. Your choices
- Cookies and ads: use the Privacy and cookie settings link in the footer of every page to review or change your choices. See our Cookie Policy for details and browser controls.
- Newsletter: unsubscribe any time (section 3a).
- Google Analytics: you can also install Google's opt-out browser add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
8. Your rights
How to use any right below: email globalchinaev@gmail.com or write to the person in charge (section 2). We may need to confirm your identity first (for newsletter data, usually by confirming you control the email address). We will answer within 30 days. Requests are free.
Because we know very little about most readers (often only a random cookie identifier), we may not be able to link analytics or ad data to you. We'll explain if that's the case.
Canada (including Quebec)
You can:
- access the personal information we hold about you and learn how it's used and who it's shared with;
- correct information that is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date;
- withdraw your consent at any time (for example, unsubscribing or changing cookie choices), subject to legal limits;
- in Quebec, ask us to stop disseminating your information or to de-index a link to it where the law allows, and ask for your information in a structured, commonly used technological format (portability);
- complain to us first, and then to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (https://www.cai.gouv.qc.ca) if you're in Quebec, or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (https://www.priv.gc.ca).
Privacy by default (Quebec). Where we offer settings, the most privacy-protective option is the default. Any tracking technology that can identify, locate or profile you is turned off unless you turn it on, where Quebec law requires it.
EEA, UK and Switzerland
You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data; to restrict or object to processing (including processing based on legitimate interests and any direct marketing); to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting what happened before. You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, especially in the country where you live or work. A list of EU authorities is at https://edpb.europa.eu/about-edpb/about-edpb/members_en; in the UK it is the ICO (https://ico.org.uk); in Switzerland, the FDPIC (https://www.edoeb.admin.ch).
California and other US states
Depending on your state, you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and access a copy;
- correct and delete it;
- opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information and of targeted advertising.
We don't sell personal information for money. However, letting Google and its ad partners use cookies on our Site to show ads based on your activity across sites may count as "selling" or "sharing" for cross-context behavioral (targeted) advertising under some state laws. To opt out, use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link shown to visitors in those states, the footer Privacy and cookie settings link, or the opt-outs in section 6.
In the last 12 months, the categories of information we collected are: identifiers (email address if you subscribe; IP address; cookie IDs), internet activity (pages viewed, interactions with ads), and approximate location (from IP address). Sources and purposes are described in section 3; recipients in section 4. We don't use or disclose sensitive personal information.
We won't treat you differently for using your rights. You can use an authorized agent; we may ask for proof of their authority. If we refuse your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision at globalchinaev@gmail.com.
9. How long we keep information
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Newsletter email (confirmed) | Until you unsubscribe, then deleted |
| Newsletter email (never confirmed) | Up to 30 days |
| Emails you send us | As long as needed to deal with your message, then up to 2 years |
| Hosting logs (Vercel) | A short period, under Vercel's log retention |
| Google Analytics data | Up to 14 months (see section 3c) |
| Vercel Web Analytics | Visitor code resets every 24 hours; only totals are kept |
| Cookies | See our Cookie Policy |
10. Security
We use HTTPS on the whole Site, rely on providers with strong security programs, store subscriber data in an encrypted database, and limit access to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure. If a privacy incident creates a risk of serious harm, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
11. Children
The Site is a general news site and is not intended for children under 16. We don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has subscribed to our newsletter, contact us and we'll delete the address.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices or the law change. We'll post the new version here with a new effective date, and point out important changes on the Site or by email to subscribers.
