BYD (HKG: 1211) opened presales for its new Da Han EV sedan on August 21, 2026, the opening day of the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show. The Dynasty 9-series flagship comes in three configurations priced from 249,900 yuan (c. $37,190) to 299,900 yuan (c. $44,630), with the range-topping rear-wheel-drive variant reaching 1,008 km (626 miles) of CLTC range.

The Da Han slots above the existing Han and Han L in BYD's lineup as a full-size D+ segment sedan, filling the gap between the standard Dynasty models and the ultra-luxury Yangwang brand. It pairs with the Da Tang SUV, launched in June 2026 from 239,900 to 309,900 yuan, to form BYD's flagship product duo for the Dynasty network.

The lineup opens with the rear-wheel-drive LiDAR Premium trim at 249,900 yuan (c. $37,190), which carries the full 1,008 km range. The rear-wheel-drive LiDAR Flagship trim keeps that same range at 269,900 yuan (c. $40,160), while the all-wheel-drive LiDAR Flagship tops the range at 299,900 yuan (c. $44,630) with a shorter 880 km (547 miles) CLTC rating. Buyers who place presale orders can select one of four dual-tone paint finishes free of charge, a perk BYD values at 10,000 yuan.

Body dimensions measure 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,510 mm tall on a 3,130 mm wheelbase, making the sedan 66 mm longer than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The exterior follows BYD's Dragon Face design language, with slim connected headlights, a chrome "Dragon Whisker" front panel and semi-hidden door handles, and the car posts a 0.197 drag coefficient. Nine exterior colors are offered, including four dual-tone combinations, and buyers can choose 20-inch or 21-inch wheels, with the larger set pairing 255/40 R21 tires and an optional floating wheel-cap design for a more upscale look.

China's large premium-sedan segment has kept growing even as cheaper compact and mid-size EVs face intense discounting, and BYD is betting the Da Han can capture buyers trading up from mainstream models or cross-shopping imported luxury sedans. The car's proportions and rear-biased cabin layout echo that positioning, with BYD framing the model as blending traditional three-box sedan elegance with a sportier, faster-back roofline aimed at younger premium buyers.

All three launch trims use BYD's second-generation Blade lithium iron phosphate battery, rated at roughly 102.3 kWh, built on an 800-volt architecture. BYD's flash-charging technology can take the pack from 10 percent to 70 percent in five minutes and to 97 percent in nine, and cold-weather charging at temperatures as low as minus 30 Celsius adds only about three extra minutes. The company says it aims to have 20,000 flash-charging stations operating nationwide by the end of 2026.

The rear-wheel-drive variants use a single motor producing 370 kW (496 hp), while the all-wheel-drive Flagship splits output between a 200 kW front motor and a 370 kW rear motor for a combined 570 kW (764 hp). BYD rates the all-wheel-drive version at 3.3 seconds for the 0-100 km/h sprint, a 3.2-second burst from 100-150 km/h, and a 270 km/h (168 mph) top speed. A plug-in hybrid variant is planned for a later date, expected to pair a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor and a roughly 54.5 kWh battery, though BYD has not yet confirmed final specifications, range or pricing for that version.

Inside, the Da Han pairs white ash wood trim and diamond-quilted seats with a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster and a central touchscreen. BYD's DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension allows up to 100 mm of ride-height adjustment, and the range-topping trims add the LiDAR-equipped God's Eye B driver-assistance suite, covering urban and highway navigate-on-autopilot as well as automated parking. The cabin claims a 90.8 percent space-utilization ratio, and rear passengers get smart-dimming privacy glass paired with a 31-speaker Dynaudio sound system.

Da Han EV units began reaching BYD dealerships on August 24, just three days after presales opened, with early show cars finished in a gray exterior with a blacked-out roof and 21-inch wheels, paired with a beige interior featuring a floating dashboard display, a D-shaped steering wheel and massage seats. BYD has not yet disclosed a presale order tally for the model.

BYD positions the Da Han primarily against premium large-sedans, one of the few corners of the domestic EV market still growing while cheaper compact segments face heavy price competition. BYD's own Han L, launched at the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show from 194,800 yuan, remains the brand's smaller flagship sedan, leaving the Da Han as a distinct, higher-positioned model rather than a direct replacement.

BYD delivered 411,072 vehicles globally in July 2026, up 20.5 percent year over year. Domestic deliveries fell 30.9 percent year over year to 172,449 units in the same month, underscoring the intensifying competition inside China even as the company's overseas volumes climb.

BYD's Dynasty network also used the Chengdu show to confirm the third-generation Tang, a large six-seat SUV, with a China launch planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. Combined with the Da Han and Da Tang, the additions round out BYD's push into higher-margin, larger-bodied segments beyond its traditional compact and mid-size volume sellers.

Presales run through the rest of the Chengdu show, which continues through August 30, and the first cars are already reaching showrooms ahead of wider deliveries later in 2026. Whether the pricing gap to other premium rivals converts into meaningful order volume will become clearer once BYD reports its first presale tally.
