Official images show the 2027 bZ5 retaining its closed-off front grille, boomerang-shaped headlight clusters, and full-width front and rear light bars. Body dimensions are also expected to hold steady at 4,780 mm long, 1,866 mm wide, and 1,510 mm tall (188 by 73.5 by 59.4 inches), on a 2,880 mm (113.4-inch) wheelbase. FAW Toyota's teaser materials gave no indication of exterior changes beyond what is typical of a model-year refresh.

Inside, the outgoing bZ5 pairs a 15.6-inch central touchscreen with a narrow, strip-style digital instrument cluster, a layout the 2027 version is expected to carry forward largely as-is. The current car's driver-assistance suite, branded Toyota Pilot, combines Momenta 5.0 urban assisted-driving software with Toyota Safety Sense and supports more than 30 functions, including highway and city navigation assistance and automated parking, on its higher trims. Chinese coverage of the refresh anticipates FAW Toyota will use the update to push further capability into that system rather than rework the cabin itself, though no specific feature list has been confirmed.

Powertrain details for 2027 have not been confirmed, but the current bZ5 runs a single front-mounted motor rated at 200 kW (272 metric horsepower), paired with lithium iron phosphate Blade battery packs supplied by BYD (HKG: 1211) subsidiary FinDreams Battery. Buyers can choose a 65.28 kWh pack rated for 550 km of CLTC range or a 73.98 kWh pack rated for 630 km. Reporting on the refresh suggests FAW Toyota may extend those range figures for 2027, though no specific numbers have been published ahead of the August 26 event.

FAW Toyota's teaser stopped short of naming a launch price for the 2027 bZ5, a detail expected to arrive alongside full specifications at Tuesday's event. Given the model-year nature of the update, and the carryover of body dimensions and cabin layout, any pricing shift looks more likely to track added equipment or extended range than a restructured trim lineup. The automaker's own promotional push has so far pointed buyers toward the launch event itself rather than revealing numbers early.

Sales-ranking data show retail registrations for the outgoing bZ5 peaked at 3,019 units in September 2025, four months after its debut, before settling into a choppier pattern through the rest of the year. Retail sales fell to 1,169 units in November 2025, dropped further to a low of 225 units in February 2026, then rebounded to 1,655 units by May 2026, only to slide again to 723 units in June and 529 units in July. Across the fifteen months of sales data, from May 2025 through July 2026, cumulative retail sales come to roughly 18,544 units, an average of well under 1,300 units a month for a joint-venture SUV competing against a much larger field of domestic rivals.

The same data show a wide gap opening between wholesale shipments and retail sales heading into the refresh.
