Onvo L90 adds gold-roof design package as family flagship tops 60,000 units

Onvo, the mass-market electric vehicle brand owned by NIO (NYSE: NIO), began selling a new appearance package for its three-row L90 SUV on September 23, 2026. The Starlight Gold Radiance design package bundles a two-tone exterior with a Misty Grey interior theme, officially priced at 10,000 CNY (c. $1,493) but offered at a limited-time price of 6,000 CNY (c. $896).

The exterior half pairs a Cloud Dawn Gold roof with a Starlight Blue body, a scheme Onvo has described as evoking moonlight over open water and a theme of family reunion. The two paint finishes are sold only together, adding a two-tone option to an L90 lineup that has so far shipped in single-color finishes.

Inside, the Misty Grey theme covers the dashboard, door panels and every seat, replacing the standard cabin color on cars that select it. Onvo describes the tone as drawn from mountain mist at dawn and dusk, a cooler grey intended to soften the cabin's existing ambient lighting rather than replace it.

Both elements are sold as a single option rather than separately, and Onvo has made the package available across the L90 Pro, Max+ and Ultra+ trims, spanning the six- and seven-seat configurations currently offered.

The L90 rides on NIO's third-generation NT 3.0 electric vehicle platform and carries what Onvo calls the same smart technology suite fitted to the NIO ES9, the automaker's newer three-row flagship SUV. NIO positions Onvo as a lower-priced sibling brand that reuses mainline hardware and software to reach price points its parent brand does not compete at directly.

The current L90 lineup dates to an April 2026 update that introduced NIO's in-house, 5-nanometer Shenji NX9031 smart-driving chip and an optional lidar sensor, replacing the Nvidia Orin-X hardware used on the entry Pro trim. Pricing held steady through that update, running from 265,800 CNY (c. $39,675) for the base Pro six-seater to 299,800 CNY (c. $44,750) for the all-wheel-drive Ultra+.

A single 85 kWh battery pack is standard across the range, rated for as much as 605 km (376 miles) on China's CLTC test cycle in the rear-wheel-drive Pro configuration, with support for battery swapping at NIO's charging network. The SUV measures 5,145 mm (202.6 in) long on a 3,110 mm (122.4 in) wheelbase, dimensions Onvo has built its family-hauler pitch around.

The L90 has also collected a run of Chinese safety certifications. It became the first pure-electric large SUV to earn a five-star rating under the 2024 version of the C-ICAP intelligent-connectivity evaluation, and it holds five-star ratings across C-ICAP, C-NCAP crash testing and C-GCAP energy-efficiency assessment simultaneously, a combination no other large SUV in China has matched.

The design package arrives roughly 14 months after the L90 began deliveries on August 1, 2025. Onvo says the SUV passed 60,000 cumulative deliveries around its one-year sales anniversary in July 2026, a figure the brand has used to claim the sales lead among large pure-electric SUVs priced around 300,000 CNY in China.

Onvo currently sells two models alongside the L90: the smaller L60 crossover, which starts at 192,800 CNY (c. $28,778), and a five-seat L80 due to follow later in the lineup. The sub-brand has leaned on shared components and software with NIO-brand vehicles to undercut its parent brand on price while keeping access to the same charging and battery-swap network.

Whether an appearance package moves meaningful volume on a model already delivering in the thousands each month is unclear, but it costs Onvo little to develop against an existing platform, and rivals chasing the same family-SUV buyers in China may find themselves matching the tactic before long.

Conversion rate: 1 USD = 6.6995 CNY as of September 22, 2026.
