Huawei-backed AITO M6 arrives in showrooms with 60,000 pre-orders in 24 hours

Seres Group's AITO brand opened pre-sales for the all-new M6 SUV on March 23, 2026, accumulating more than 60,000 orders within 24 hours of the announcement at Huawei's spring product launch event in Changsha. Display units began arriving at more than 1,000 HIMA showrooms across China on April 4, ahead of a planned Q2 2026 retail launch.

The M6 fills the last remaining gap in AITO's SUV lineup, slotting between the M5 (from 229,800 CNY, c. $33,400) and the refreshed M7 (from 309,800 CNY, c. $45,000), and completing what the brand calls its "56789" product matrix — five models spanning the M5 through the flagship M9. The M6 is manufactured by Seres Group (SHA: 601127) and developed under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), Huawei's multi-brand automotive partnership framework.

The pre-sale was announced by He Gang, CEO of Huawei's Terminal BG, standing in for executive director Richard Yu (Yu Chengdong), who was absent from the Changsha event due to illness. Yu subsequently confirmed on Weibo that pre-orders had surpassed 60,000 units in the first 24 hours.

Pre-sale pricing starts at 269,800 CNY (c. $39,200) for the extended-range electric version (EREV) and 289,800 CNY (c. $42,100) for the battery-electric version (BEV). Top-spec Ultra BEV trims are priced at 309,800 CNY (c. $45,000). The M6 is positioned squarely against the Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y, Xiaomi YU7, and Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) L6 — a segment that has become among the most contested in China's new energy vehicle market.

A defining feature across the entire M6 lineup is the standard fitment of Huawei's 896-channel dual-optic LiDAR, which Huawei describes as the highest-specification mass-produced automotive LiDAR globally. The system uses a dual-optical-path architecture combining wide-angle and telephoto imaging. It feeds Huawei's Qiankun ADS 4.0 driver-assistance system, which the company says reduces end-to-end latency by 50% and heavy braking events by 30% compared with the previous generation.

The M6 measures 4,960 mm long, 1,985 mm wide, and 1,736 mm tall, with a 2,950 mm wheelbase — dimensions that classify it as a mid-to-large SUV. Its drag coefficient of 0.239 Cd is achieved through a closed front grille, semi-recessed door handles, and sculpted bonnet lines.

The cabin interior spans 1,915 mm in width and runs Huawei's HarmonyOS Cockpit 5, featuring a full LCD instrument cluster, a rotatable central multimedia touchscreen, a front-passenger "Inspiration Window" entertainment display, dual wireless charging pads, HUD, and a panoramic sunroof. The cabin adopts a purple-and-white dual-tone color scheme targeting younger buyers.

The BEV variant is built on an 800-volt high-voltage platform with a 97.6 kWh CATL battery pack. Rear-wheel-drive models produce 227 kW (304 hp), while all-wheel-drive versions combine a 160 kW front motor and a 180 kW rear motor for 340 kW (456 hp) total.

CLTC range spans from 665 km (413 miles) to 760 km (472 miles) depending on drivetrain configuration. The EREV pairs a 1.5T petrol engine producing 112 kW with dual electric motors — 165 kW front and 180 kW rear — and is available with either a 36 kWh or 51.975 kWh battery pack alongside a 60-litre fuel tank. WLTC combined range for the EREV tops out at approximately 1,400 km (870 miles), while CLTC pure-electric range reaches up to 272 km (169 miles) on the larger pack.

AITO reached its first one-million-vehicle production milestone on January 13, 2026, in 46 months. The brand delivered 422,900 units in 2025, a 9.3% year-on-year increase, with the M8 alone accounting for more than 150,000 of those units since its April 2025 launch.

Parent company Seres reported record full-year 2025 revenue of 165.05 billion CNY (c. $24.0 billion), up 13.7% year-on-year, with a NEV gross margin of 28.8%. The company's R&D spending rose 77.4% to 12.51 billion CNY in the same period.

The 25,000–30,000 CNY SUV band is one of the most competitive in China, with the Tesla Model Y recording more than 420,000 deliveries in 2025 and Li Auto's L6 holding the title of 2025 sales champion in the mid-to-large SUV segment.

Whether the M6's hardware-first positioning — no simplified trim without LiDAR — can sustain its opening momentum will become clearer once Seres announces the confirmed retail price, which may differ from pre-sale figures, likely in the coming weeks.

Conversion rate: 1 USD = 6.88 CNY as of April 4, 2026
