Huawei's Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) has shown off a "roof-tent version" of its upcoming Stelato G9, a full-size luxury SUV co-developed with BAIC that is due to launch in the third quarter of 2026. On July 8, Huawei's terminal business chairman Richard Yu posted a photo of the actual production vehicle on Weibo, captioned simply "Good night, Aoluguya," showing the roof lifted open into a large tent structure spanning most of the vehicle's length.

What sets this apart from the aftermarket rooftop tents already common on Chinese off-roaders is that it's designed into the vehicle from the start. The tent is built into the roof and sunroof assembly itself, rather than being a bolted-on accessory, and Huawei has already filed a patent for it: a "roof control method and related device" application, filed April 3, 2026 and published May 26, 2026, according to Sina Auto. It is the first SUV in China to ship from the factory with an integrated camping tent, noting the design was "considered as part of the whole vehicle from the outset" specifically to avoid the bulky, bolted-on look of typical rooftop tents, per ZOL.

In the photos, the roof panel rises from one side and unfolds into two connected sections. The main tent forms a triangular profile — low at the front, tall at the back — with a built-in lighting pole running through the interior. A smaller auxiliary tent can then be extended out from one side of the main structure, adding usable floor space and reducing the cramped feel of a single-tent layout.

The G9 itself is a big vehicle to be carrying this feature. It measures 5,206 mm long (5,377 mm with the optional rear storage box), 2,050 mm wide and 1,897 mm tall on a 3,160 mm wheelbase — dimensions that put it ahead of BYD's Yangwang U8. It will be offered with either a 2+3 five-seat or a 2+2+2 six-seat layout, the latter with independent "aviation" second-row seats featuring ventilation, heating, massage and powered leg rests. Off-road figures include a 23-degree approach angle, 26-degree departure angle and a 900 mm wading depth, with a side-opening tailgate and options for an external spare-tire mount, roof rack, power side steps and a tow hook.

Power comes from an 800V platform paired with Huawei's "Giant Whale" battery system, in either extended-range (EREV) or all-electric (BEV) form. Both use a dual-motor setup with a 160 kW front motor and 277 kW rear motor for a combined peak of 437 kW. The EREV version pairs a 1.5T range extender with a roughly 75 kWh battery for a CLTC combined range beyond 1,300 km, while the BEV carries a 120 kWh pack good for a CLTC range past 700 km. The car comes standard with Huawei's 896-line lidar and support for the ADS 5.0 driver-assist system, with an option for three additional solid-state lidar units.
The Stelato G9 is expected to launch around August 2026, joining the Stelato S9 sedan and S9T wagon as the brand's third model. It enters a crowded field of Chinese "9-series" flagship SUVs — including the Li Auto L9, AITO M9 and Zeekr 9X — where more than 40 such models are expected on the market this year. Pricing has not been officially confirmed, though early estimates put it in the 430,000–500,000 yuan range.
