BYD Da Tang EV set for June 17 launch after 100,000 pre-orders in two weeks

BYD (HKG: 1211) will officially launch the Da Tang electric SUV on June 17, 2026, capping one of the most anticipated Chinese EV releases of the year. The seven-seat, D-segment flagship attracted more than 100,000 pre-sale orders in under two weeks — including 30,000 in its first 24 hours — when pre-sales opened at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show on April 24.

The demand surge was significant enough to delay the launch from its original end-of-May timeline, with BYD CEO Wang Chuanfu acknowledging that orders for vehicles equipped with the new Blade Battery 2.0 had exceeded the company's production capacity.

The Da Tang sits atop BYD's Dynasty SUV lineup, positioned above the existing Tang and Tang L models, which together recorded 2,620 units in China in April 2026. Measuring 5,263 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,790 mm tall on a 3,130 mm wheelbase, the Da Tang is larger than both the Hyundai IONIQ 9 and Kia EV9.

Three variants are offered at pre-sale prices between 250,000 CNY (c. $37,000) and 320,000 CNY (c. $47,300). The entry-level rear-wheel-drive version carries a 105.79 kWh battery producing 300 kW and delivers a claimed CLTC range of 800 km (497 miles).

A long-range rear-wheel-drive variant steps up to a 130.15 kWh pack, 370 kW (496 hp) output, and a claimed 950 km (590 miles) of CLTC range. The flagship all-wheel-drive model pairs the same 130.15 kWh battery with a dual-motor setup producing 585 kW (784 hp) and reaches 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

All versions run on BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and a 1000V high-voltage architecture. BYD Flash Charging operates at a 10C rate with 1,000A of current, bringing the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes and to 97% in nine minutes.

The Da Tang also comes with DiSus-A intelligent air suspension featuring dual-chamber air springs and a road-preview system that adjusts damping ahead of surface changes, as well as rear-wheel steering and a crab-walk mode.

The God's Eye B advanced driver assistance system — featuring a roof-mounted lidar — supports highway navigation-on-autopilot and smart parking. Inside, a 2+2+3 seven-seat layout is wrapped around a 3nm cockpit chip, a floating center touchscreen, a dedicated front-passenger display, and a 17.3-inch ceiling-mounted screen for second-row occupants.

A 7.1.4-channel Devialet audio system with 27 speakers and a "Sky Mirror" hollow panoramic roof round out the interior. BYD says the Da Tang includes "29 world firsts," among them the first 2+2+3 seven-seat configuration offered by a Chinese D-segment electric SUV.

BYD is offering 18 months of free Flash Charging to buyers who place a reservation before the June 17 official launch date, an unusual incentive for a vehicle in this price bracket.

Whether BYD's Blade Battery 2.0 supply chain has caught up to those 100,000 waiting customers will likely define the Da Tang's opening months on the market.

Conversion rate: 1 USD = 6.76 CNY as of June 14, 2026
